Dr. Abdou has studied in Libya, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America and is the founder of ABDOU LAW FIRM. He presently serves as the Founding Partner of the firm. Dr. Abdou is responsible for the overseeing the overall firm strategy, working closely with the Managing Partner to ensure the success of the firm. Dr. Abdou is an esteemed academic lecturer at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies. He previously worked at the Prime Ministers Office, where he was responsible for international economic co-operation affairs.
Dr. Abdou has a long history of academic excellence dating back to his school education, where he was constantly ranked first amongst his peers. He also succeeded both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies which he studied in Libya and where he was at the top of his class in both stages. This success continued outside Libya as well where he studied his master’s degree in the United States of America and his PhD in the United Kingdom. He obtained his PhD with a recommendation to work from an external examiner who was a lecturer at the well renowned University of Cambridge.
Dr. Abdou’s practice specializes in Commercial Law and Corporate Law, with particular experience in corporate and structured financing of various types, M&A, and investigations practice. He advises clients on everything from outsourcing projects, network procurement, and infrastructure contracts, and manages services agreements to technology co-operation and collaboration arrangements. He also has extensive experience in dealing with the day-to-day commercial issues that companies face, including agency and representation, Consumer Law, advertising, and sales promotions. He spends most of his time coordinating advice on a multi-jurisdictional basis for companies with multinational operations. He also advises start-ups and newly-established Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs) on matters including M&A and restructuring. Furthermore, Dr. Abdou has experience in other areas of law including Telecommunication Law, Oil and Gas Law, Civil Law, and Banking Law. In addition, he has built up significant experience in the employment aspects of M&A and outsourcing transactions in Libya as well as business restructuring projects involving social plans. Dr. Abdou also advises investment funds on internal governance and operational matters.
Dr. Abdou has acted for a number of international law firms such as Allen & Overy – DLA Piper Baker & McKenzie LLP – Dentons LLP – King and Wood – Holman Fenwick Willan LLP – Pinsent Masons LLP, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP – Two Birds – Altamimi. He has provided legal services to many foreign entities operating in Libya as Ericsson Libya AB Gasprom – Calico – International Medical Crop – Eni – OMV and Nokia/ Alcatel – Adria Mar Shipbuilding. Additionally, he has provided many legal services to major international banks and financial institutions, such as Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank -ICBC – Standard Bank – MoneyGram, Société Générale Bank – Visa – MasterCard.
Dr. Abdou has also provided numerous expert reports to foreign courts in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Germany. Also, he has provided his clients with many arbitrational reports. Dr. Abdou has been trained by Assurety in London in relation to the best way to provide witness statements in the UK courts and how to deal with cross-examinations.
Recently, Dr. Abdou has been working on many highly valued and significant cases. For example, a transaction against Euroclear representing Libyan Long Term Investment Portfolio, and this transaction value was 2.2B Euro. He has worked with Pinsent Masons, representing Société Générale Bank, and the case was worth approximately. 5 B Euro.
Dr. Abdou has also been involved in many different committees responsible for developing the Libyan legal system, whether as a committee member or head of the committee.
