Biography

Dr. Abdou is the founder and Founding Partner of ABDOU LAW FIRM. He studied in Libya, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, and currently oversees the firm’s overall strategy, working closely with the Managing Partner to ensure its continued success. He is also an academic lecturer at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies and previously worked at the Prime Minister’s Office, where he was responsible for international economic cooperation affairs.

Dr. Abdou has demonstrated outstanding academic excellence since his early education, consistently ranking first among his peers. He graduated top of his class in both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Libya. He later obtained his Master’s degree in the United States and his PhD in the United Kingdom, where his doctoral work earned a recommendation for further academic engagement from an external examiner affiliated with the University of Cambridge.

His practice focuses on Commercial and Corporate Law, with extensive experience in corporate and structured financing, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and investigations. He advises clients on outsourcing projects, network procurement, infrastructure contracts, service agreements, and technology cooperation arrangements. He also handles day-to-day commercial matters including agency and representation, consumer law, advertising, and sales promotions. He regularly coordinates multi-jurisdictional legal advice for multinational companies and advises start-ups and Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs) on M&A and restructuring.

Dr. Abdou’s expertise extends to Telecommunication Law, Oil and Gas Law, Civil Law, and Banking Law. He has significant experience in employment aspects of M&A, outsourcing transactions in Libya, business restructuring projects, and investment fund governance and operations.

He has worked with leading international law firms including Allen & Overy, DLA Piper, Baker & McKenzie LLP, Dentons LLP, King & Wood, Holman Fenwick Willan LLP, Pinsent Masons LLP, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, Two Birds, and Al Tamimi. He has also provided legal services to major international companies such as Ericsson Libya AB, Gazprom, Calico, International Medical Corp, Eni, OMV, Nokia/Alcatel, and Adria Mar Shipbuilding. In addition, he has advised prominent financial institutions including Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, ICBC, Standard Bank, MoneyGram, Société Générale, Visa, and MasterCard.

Dr. Abdou has prepared expert reports for courts in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany, and has delivered numerous arbitration reports. He also received specialized training in London by Assurety on preparing witness statements and handling cross-examinations before UK courts.


Among his notable work, he was involved in a €2.2 billion transaction against Euroclear representing the Libyan Long-Term Investment Portfolio, and a €5 billion case in collaboration with Pinsent Masons representing Société Générale.


Dr. Abdou has also contributed to the development of the Libyan legal system through his participation in various committees, serving both as a member and as head of committees.
